7 Facts about the food
or are your food choices centered around pleasure or convenience?
7 Facts about the food
- Every cell in the human body runs on glucose
- Carbohydrates provide the body with the right fuel for energy
- Heavy fatty meals often require more energy to digest than they give!
- Stimulants like caffeine or refined carbohydrates actually rob us of energy
- Eating the right foods for energy can be both pleasurable & convenient.
- Food doesn't give us energy, rather it provides the fuel from which our body can produce energy. This happens sequentially, in other words, we eat today for tomorrows energy
- Supplements are NOT food, so if you need vitamin C, eat foods with vitamin C, like oranges and Kiwi fruit.
7 steps to more Energy
- Choose whole ripe raw fruits & vegetables over man made food
- Eat with your mind not your cravings- in other words, think about what you are putting into your body in terms of what you want to get out of it.
- Water. Many of us are dehydrated because we don't drink enough water. Very few things sap our energy more than dehydration. Avoid drinks with caffeine in them as these act as a diuretic causing you to loose fluid
- Make a meal of fruit. Instead of one banana have five or have 6- 8 nectarines, try to stick to one fruit at a time this aids digestion and therefore maximises energy
- Get enough rest! Most of us don't get enough sleep and we wonder why we drag ourselves through the day. Think of sleep as recharging your battery.
- Watch your emotions. Nothing drains us of energy more than emotional issues so if you have fallen out with your best friend- make up!
- Think positive! I know, we have all heard that before but really a healthy mind means a healthy body
In Dr Joel Fuhrman's book 'Eat to Live' he recommends making a salad the main meal of the day. To do this successfully you need to make sure of 3 things:
- Eating enough! We often think of salad as a side dish or an accompaniment to something else- the main meat meal yet that little side salad can have up to 10 times the nutrition value of the so called main meal. Make sure you make a big enough salad to fill you or you will be hunting for something else half an hour later. Also follow the salad with some fruit this will satisfy your sweet craving.
- Keep it interesting. If your salads consist of lettuce, cucumber and tomato it won't be long before you ditch the salad idea. Get creative and put as much effort into your salads as you would any other cooked meal.
- Dressings make a salad that's a fact! A great salad is made by a great dressing and this is where your creativity kicks in, there are no end of tasty low fat dressings to keep you munching on that salad. You will find some on this site and my Youtube channel.
