My name is Julian Voigt and for 22 years I struggled with my weight as well as numerous health issues. I have always loved food and particularly Curry! I loved Curry so much that back in 2010 I quit my regular job and opened my own 'Indian' Takeaway. While that career move helped me fulfill a dream at the time it also ended up contributing to my already deteriorating health as you no doubt can guess what I ate for Dinner every night!
Back then I was suffering with a painful peptic stomach ulcer that numerous medical treatments had proved ineffective in treating. I also suffered with Asthma, chronic Hay fever every summer, IBS and high blood pressure and for many years I was about 4 stone overweight (25 Kilos)
I had tried numerous things to gain control of my weight and health but nothing I tried produced a lasting change. The turning point for me came when, one day I was rushing late for an appointment and just as I arrived I started to experience chest pain (this wasn't the first time).
My wife who was with me at the time insisted I make a detour to the Hospital. So, after a few hours in the Hospital and having had an ECG I was told that while my heart seemed essentially OK, It was highly likely that I had suffered from an Angina episode -surely not at only 41! After a chat with the Doctor it was obvious it was time to make some lifestyle changes!
Instinctively I knew that their had to be a natural solution to health and after reading through the long list of side effects that came with the medication the Doctors had currently prescribed I felt motivated to find the answers.
I first came across something called the 'Alkaline Diet' see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alkaline_diet the principles of which center around a plant based diet- this seemed a logical solution to my stomach and digestive issues, around the same time a came across a Youtube channel promoting Juicing as a means to heal yourself. I bought my first juicer and started drinking a green juice recipe that promised to help heal my stomach ulcer in about 2 weeks with out the need for any other medication.
After just less than 2 weeks of having green juice every morning for breakfast I found myself for the first time in a long time pain free! Wow, I couldn't believe it no stomach pain! Not only that but I had noticed my energy levels had increased and I was loosing weight- all this from replacing one meal of the day with freshly extracted juice. Now being the sort of person I am (naturally enthusiastic) I could hardly keep this discovery to my self and I began preaching the benefits of juicing to everyone! I knew back then that I had stumbled on something that really works and I needed to know why and just how far this thing went.
I began researching like mad- juicing, the 'Alkaline Diet' and the plant based nutrition. I read a ton of books from the China Study to Dr. Doug Graham's groundbreaking book- 'The 80/10/10 Diet' I was becoming increasingly convinced that a plant based diet is not only the diet we were designed to eat but that the lack of such a diet particularly in the western world is the cause of so many preventable lifestyle diseases like- Diabetes, Heart disease, Obesity and even Cancer.
As time went on and my knowledge expanded I gradually made more and more changes in my diet and noticed that like magic all my other ailments disappeared- no more high blood pressure, no more IBS, no more Asthma, no more chronic Hay fever every summer, not to mention the weight just dropped off while at the same time my energy levels increased as well as my mental alertness- no more brain fog- no more mid afternoon slumps.
After feeling better than I had in years I thought it's time to start doing some exercise. Now bearing in mind I hadn't exercised since, well I can't remember when I new this wasn't going to be easy forming a new exercise habit at 43 years of age. I joined a gym (as you do) and committed to a 6 months membership. I did make use of the gym and it got me into exercising again but for me I knew that something simple was going to work best, so I bought myself a decent pair of running shoes and started running (man that shows you how unfit you are!) anyway I started running a mile, then two, then three and so on. Now I run about 30 miles a week usually about 10k runs (6 miles) and feel fantastic! At the moment I am training for my first half Marathon.
This year I attended the first UK Fruit Festival in Devon which and was privileged to meet Dr. Doug Graham and Professor Rosalind Graham and attend lectures on Nutrition and the benefits of a plant based diet. I also met many athletes who are living this lifestyle and getting superb results in their chosen Sport.
Four years into this journey my desire is to share what I have found with others. I hope between this website and my Youtube channel you find the information, inspiration, recipes and tools to help you achieve the health you desire and deserve.
